Copyright Certificate
COPYRIGHT CERTIFICATE
A certificate of registration is issued when an application complies with the requirements for copyright. These requirements are as follows:
- A work must be of original authorship;
- The work must be fixed (tangible format) and;
- Must constitute copyrightable subject matter.
The certificate shall contain the information given in the application, together with the number and effective date of the registration.
The certificate serves as prima facie evidence of the validity of the copyright in any judicial proceedings.
The effective date of a copyright registration is the day on which an application, deposit, and fee, have all been received by the Business & Intellectual Property Authority’s (BIPA) Copyright Office.
